Why use a meta tag generator

A generator produces valid, consistent markup with correct attributes, helps you stay within recommended title and description lengths, and adds social tags that make your links look great when shared, improving both click-through and appearance.

Every tag this outputs, and why

  • Title, the single most important on-page signal and your headline in search results.
  • Description, the snippet copy that decides your click-through rate.
  • Canonical, tells crawlers which URL is authoritative when parameters or duplicates exist.
  • Robots, controls indexing and link following on that URL.
  • Open Graph, how the page renders when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and WhatsApp.
  • Twitter card, the X/Twitter equivalent, with a large image variant when you supply one.

Canonical rules that prevent trouble

A canonical should point at the page itself unless you deliberately want the equity consolidated elsewhere. Self-referencing canonicals on every indexable URL is the safe default. Never canonicalise a whole set of pages to the homepage, that is the fastest way to have your category and service pages dropped from the index.

Social images

Use a 1200 x 630px image with legible text at thumbnail size. Platforms cache aggressively, so if you change the image later you will need their preview debugger to force a refresh. A missing image is better than a broken URL: the platform will fall back to a text-only card.

Where to paste the output

In WordPress, most of this is handled by your SEO plugin or theme, use the generated block for landing pages built outside the CMS, for static microsites, or to sanity-check what your plugin is producing. Never output two competing sets of tags on the same page.
