Instantly check whether the links on any web page are dofollow or nofollow. Paste a URL and our free link checker scans every outbound link and labels its rel attribute (dofollow, nofollow, sponsored, or UGC) so you can evaluate link value in seconds.
Shows dofollow vs nofollow plus sponsored and ugc values, and whether each link opens in a new tab.
How to use the Dofollow & Nofollow Link Checker
- Paste the page URL into the box.
- Click “Check Links.”
- Review the table of outbound links with each one’s dofollow/nofollow status.
- Export or copy the results.
What is a dofollow vs. nofollow link?
A dofollow link passes authority (link equity) to the destination and can influence rankings. A nofollow link (rel="nofollow") tells search engines not to pass that authority, and Google also uses sponsored and ugc values for paid and user-generated links. Knowing the mix helps you assess a backlink’s SEO value, audit your own outbound links, and vet guest-post opportunities before you buy.
What the attributes mean
- dofollow, no rel restriction, so the link is a normal ranking signal.
- nofollow, a hint that the publisher does not endorse the destination.
- sponsored, declares paid or compensated placement.
- ugc, user-generated, such as comments or forum posts.
Using it to verify placements
Run the live URL of any link you have bought or earned. If a placement you were told was editorial comes back as sponsored or nofollow, the value is very different from what you paid for. We check every placement this way before it appears in a client report.
A nofollow is not always worthless
Coverage on a major publication that nofollows everything still drives referral traffic, brand searches, and secondary pickups from writers who do link. Judge a placement on the audience as well as the attribute, just do not pay dofollow prices for it.
Auditing your own outbound links
Run your own pages too. Affiliate and paid links should carry sponsored, comment links should carry ugc, and you should not be leaking equity to login pages, filters or duplicate parameters. A commercial page with thirty unmarked outbound affiliate links is a quality problem, not a link building one.
Watch for these patterns
- Every outbound link on the page nofollowed, a blanket publisher policy, so expect brand value only.
- Only your link nofollowed while others are followed, often applied deliberately to paid content.
- Links injected by JavaScript after load, this tool reads the served HTML, so check those manually in devtools.
- Dozens of unrelated commercial links in one article, a signal we use to reject inventory outright.

Pair this with the broken link checker to confirm the destination is alive, and the meta tag analyzer to confirm the host page is indexable in the first place. A followed link on a noindex page passes nothing useful.

Frequently asked questions
Do nofollow links still help?
No. A natural profile includes both. Nofollow links still drive traffic and brand exposure and keep your link profile looking natural.
Do nofollow links pass any value?
Google treats nofollow as a “hint,” so some may be considered, but you should not rely on them for ranking power.
Can I check a competitor’s outbound links?
Yes. Enter any public URL to see how they mark their outbound links.
