Why indexing matters
If a page is not indexed, it cannot rank or earn traffic, no matter how good it is. Checking index status in bulk reveals crawl and indexing problems (blocked pages, noindex tags, thin content) so you can fix them and recover lost visibility.
What this checker tests
Google has no public index API, so any tool claiming a definitive yes or no is either scraping results or guessing. This checker does the reliable half properly: it fetches the URL as a crawler would and reports the HTTP status, the meta robots tag, the X-Robots-Tag response header, the canonical target, the robots.txt rules that apply to Googlebot, and whether the URL appears in the sitemap. Then it hands you the exact site: query to confirm in one click.
The five reasons a page is not indexed
- Blocked, a noindex tag, a noindex header, or a robots.txt disallow.
- Canonicalised away, the canonical points at another URL, so Google indexes that one instead.
- Not discovered, no internal links and no sitemap entry, so the crawler never arrived.
- Not worth indexing, thin, duplicate or templated content Google chose to drop.
- Too new, discovery and indexing can take days to weeks on a low-authority site.
Why link builders should check before buying
A link on a page Google will never index passes nothing. Guest post farms routinely publish placements on noindexed pages, in noindexed sections, or on URLs canonicalised to a hub page, the link looks live to you and is invisible to Google. Run every placement URL through this checker after publication, not before payment.
Fixing what it finds
Remove the noindex, correct the robots.txt rule with the robots.txt generator, make the canonical self-referencing, add the URL to your sitemap with the XML sitemap generator, and add internal links from pages that already have authority using the internal link opportunity finder. Then request indexing in Search Console’s URL Inspection tool.
