Privacy Policy for the Redirect & Header Checker Chrome extension

Redirect & Header Checker is a browser extension that shows the redirect chain of the page open in your current tab, with every HTTP status code, the response headers of the final page, and a checklist of caching, indexing and security headers. This policy explains what the extension does with data.

We do not collect your data

The extension does not collect, store, transmit or sell any personal information or browsing data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. Everything happens locally inside your browser and is shown only to you in the extension popup.

What the extension observes

To build the redirect chain, the extension listens to the browser’s own navigation events for the main page request of each tab: the URL of every hop, its status code, its response headers, the server address and timing. This information is the same information your browser already receives to display the page.

The recorded chain for a tab is kept in the browser’s session storage, which is cleared automatically when the tab is closed or the browser quits. It never leaves your device.

Network requests the extension makes

The extension does not make requests of its own while you browse. When you type a URL into the Trace box and press Trace, it opens that URL in a hidden background tab, records the resulting chain, and closes the tab. That request is sent without your cookies and goes only to the website you typed. No request is ever sent to the developer of this extension or to any third party.

Data stored on your device

Only the temporary redirect chains described above, in session storage. No settings or history are stored permanently. Uninstalling the extension removes everything.

Permissions and why they are needed

• webRequest: observe the status codes and response headers of the page’s own navigation requests.
• webNavigation: tell server redirects apart from meta-refresh and JavaScript redirects.
• activeTab: know which tab the popup was opened on and reload it when you ask.
• storage: keep the recorded chain for each open tab in session storage until the tab closes.
• Access to all websites (host permission): redirect chains cross domains, so the observer has to cover every site you visit.

No remote code

All code ships inside the extension package reviewed by the Chrome Web Store. The extension does not download or execute code from any server.

Children

The extension is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If the extension’s behaviour changes in a way that affects privacy, this page will be updated and the “Last updated” date revised.
