Privacy Policy for the On-Page SEO Inspector Chrome extension

On-Page SEO Inspector is a browser extension that analyses the web page open in your current tab and shows the results in a popup: title and meta tags, headings, links, images, structured data (JSON-LD), Open Graph and Twitter Card tags, keyword density, robots.txt rules, sitemaps and page load timing. This policy explains what the extension does with data.

We do not collect your data

The extension does not collect, store, transmit or sell any personal information or browsing data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. All analysis runs locally inside your browser, and the results are shown only to you in the extension popup.

Network requests the extension makes

The extension only contacts the website you are inspecting and the sites that page links to. Specifically:

• When you open the popup, it may request the current site’s robots.txt file and common sitemap URLs so it can show whether the page is crawlable and which sitemaps exist.
• When you click “Check status” on the Links tab, it sends a lightweight request (HEAD) to each link found on the page, without cookies, to read the HTTP status code.
• When you click “Check sizes” on the Images tab, it sends the same kind of request to each image URL to read its file size and format.
• The Schema tab offers links to Google’s Rich Results Test and the Schema.org validator. These open in a new tab only when you click them and are governed by Google’s and Schema.org’s own policies.

No request is ever sent to the developer of this extension or to any third-party service on your behalf.

Data stored on your device

The extension saves only your preferences: the highlight toggles, the theme choice and the last opened tab. They are kept in Chrome’s extension storage and may be synced between your own devices by Chrome’s built-in sync if you have it enabled. You can remove them at any time by uninstalling the extension.

Permissions and why they are needed

• activeTab: read the page you are viewing when you click the extension icon.
• storage: save the preferences described above.
• scripting: load the extension’s page reader into tabs that were already open before the extension was installed or updated.
• Access to all websites (host permission): the inspector has to work on any site you choose to inspect, and it fetches that site’s robots.txt, sitemaps, links and images as described above.

No remote code

All code ships inside the extension package reviewed by the Chrome Web Store. The extension does not download or execute code from any server.

Children

The extension is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If the extension’s behaviour changes in a way that affects privacy, this page will be updated and the “Last updated” date revised.
